Driving is a privilege. A driver’s license gives you a certain level of freedom, but it also gives you an enormous amount of responsibility. When behind the wheel this responsibility comes in many forms, including: wearing seatbelts, driving sober, focusing on the road, and driving defensively.

Beginning December 31, 2010, if a Michigan resident receives a traffic violation in the state, they may be eligible to take a Basic Driver Improvement Course.

How does it work?
  • The Secretary of State will send you a Notice of Eligibility.
  • Eligible drivers will be given a 60-day period to complete the course.
  • Drivers who opt-in and pass the course before their deadline will avoid the points and insurance companies will not be notified of the ticket, keeping insurance rates from increasing.
  • This is a one-time opportunity.
