Have you seen flashing lights in your rear view mirror lately? Did you get a traffic ticket and wish you could make it go away?

Well, beginning December 31, 2010, if you receive a traffic ticket, you may be eligible to take a Basic Driver Improvement Course.

How will you know if you are eligible?
The Michigan Department of State (MDOS) will notify you by mail.

How does it work?
Once you take the course and pass it, the results will be reported to the MDOS. The points from the violation will not flow to your driving record and the violation will not be disclosed to insurance companies. However, the ticket information may still be viewed by courts, law enforcement and other government agencies and used, as required, by law.

You may take this option and avoid points only once. If you do not take and pass the course by the date specified, the ticket information and points will be added to your driving record.
